All-Metal LG Watch to Challenge the Apple Watch

All-Metal LG Watch to Challenge the Apple Watch

LG just announced its latest addition, the LG Watch Urbane, as Apple prepares to enter the space.

Like Apple’s first entry into the wearable technology market, LG’s third smartwatch, the LG Watch Urbane, which will launch officially at the Mobile World Congress in March, is as much about premium materials and elegance as it is about connecting to a smartphone and running apps.

The smartwatch, the price of which will be announced later, has a sensor can measure heart rate and average pulse during exercise, while an always-on ambient mode shows the time in dimmed mode.

The Urbane runs a 1.2GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 chipset, and features 4GB eMMC and 512MB LPDDR2 memory. It has a 410mAh battery and is dust and water resistant. The LG Watch Urbane will work with smartphones running Android 4.3 and above.

Unlike its previous watches, LG is positioning this new one as a classic timepiece that, it believes will appeal to both sexes, rather than just the geeky, male audience that has largely adopted the industry’s first smartwatches.

“The LG Watch Urbane’s classic design and smart features make it the perfect smartwatch to complement our G Watch and G Watch R, which were designed as more casual and active devices,” commented Juno Cho, president and CEO of LG Mobile, in a statement.
